LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:

We would like to acknowledge that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaw people. 

We would also like to acknowledge people of African ancestry have been in Nova Scotia for over 400 years.

October is Mi’Kmaq History Month 

October is Mi'kmaq History Month in Nova Scotia. The goal of the month is to help Nova Scotians build awareness of Mi'kmaq history and heritage, and to increase understanding of the province's rich Mi'kmaq culture.

Spirit Week

Spirit week continues! Thank you to everyone who participated in today’s theme : Adam Sandler

  • Thursday: Costume Day – Get creative and wear your favorite costume! Remember, no masks or fake weapons.

  • Friday: Pajama Day – Wrap up the week in your coziest sleepwear!

Guessing Game to Support Local Food Bank

The leadership team is hosting a fun guessing game to support our local food bank, and we need your help! Can you guess how many colorful pom poms are in the jar? Stop by the front entrance, tomorrow at lunch, October 31st, and take a guess for 50 cents. The student with the closest guess will win 10 cafeteria dollars! Let’s come together to make a difference while having fun! Bring your friends and show your support for the local food bank!

Leadership

There will be a leadership meeting this Friday, November 1st, in Mme Chiasson’s room at 11:35. Please bring your lunch.

Elevator Keys

Please ensure that all elevator keys are returned by the end of the day.

If you have lost items, please check out the lost and found rack across from the office.  

Girls Volleyball

The girls volleyball team will play Bi-Hi at 3:30 today here at Astral.

Hackathon

Harbour Hacks is Nova Scotia’s first hackathon for students ages 13-18! It is happening on November 2 from 5PM to 7:30PM and on November 3 from 9:30AM to 6PM. The event is located at Dalhousie University’s Sexton Engineering Campus near the Halifax Central Library.  You may be wondering what a hackathon is. A hackathon is an event where teams come together to solve problems using either software or hardware over a short time period.  If you need more information or want to register visit harbourhacks.com or email lwrighthfx@gmail.com

Drama Club

The drama club meeting this week is canceled. The next meeting will be next Thursday, November 7th. 

Library Club

There are several things happening in the Library today.  

There is a Halloween themed bake sale at lunch time.  Bring your change for some goodies!  

Also in the Library is a new event: bowling for zombies.  Prizes are up for grabs!  

Finally, voting is happening for the Annual Pumpkin Colouring contest.  The winner will receive a bag of Halloween goodies!

Boys Volleyball

Congratulations to the boys volleyball team who defeated Caledonia in straight sets in their first game of the year.  Special recognition to Ryan Kennedy and Henry Muise for their exceptional play.   Practice Thursday at 2:45. 

Girls Intramural Volleyball

Team A2 will play Team A4 today after school at 2:40 before the BI-Hi game.

Art Club

Are you ready to make friends, have fun and explore your creativity!? Well then, Art club is for you! We will have our first Art Club meeting today at 11:35 in Ms. Breen’s classroom (rm. 174)- make sure to bring your lunch! 

Remembrance Day Ceremony

We are seeking a few students who are interested in reading a passage or serving as Master of Ceremonies for our Remembrance Day ceremony. If you would like to participate, please see Mr. Ouellette by the end of the week. 

We are also looking for cadets, scouts and girl guides who would like to participate in the Remembrance Day ceremony.  Please stop by the office to see Ms. Nash.
