ANNOUNCEMENTS: Tuesday, Sept 9, 2024: WEEK #2 ,Day G

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:

We would like to acknowledge that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaw people. 

We recognize that African Nova Scotians are a distinct people whose histories, legacies and contributions have enriched Nova Scotia for over 400 years.

September 26 - Orange Shirt Day in honour of Truth and Reconciliation 

Each year on September 30, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation honours the children who didn't return from residential schools, as well as survivors, their families, and communities.   

Orange Shirt Day, led by Indigenous communities, aims to raise awareness about the inter-generational impacts of residential schools and allows us all to show our support for the Every Child Matters movement.   

As there are no classes on Monday, September 29 and Tuesday, September 30, we welcome staff and students to wear orange on Friday, September 26.

September 30 - Truth and Reconciliation Day - No School

Stand Up Against Bullying Day 

On Thursday, September 11, we will celebrate inclusivity, kindness and friendship. All HRCE school teams are focused on ensuring all students have a safe and welcoming environment in which to learn and thrive. Please join us and wear pink if you’re able on September 11 to take a stand against bullying.  

Scents - Perfume and Body Spray

Body Spray, perfume, scented hand sanitizer and scents are not permitted in HRCE schools. Students are not permitted to wear scents, please respect the learning environment and the needs of others. There are teachers and students who are allergic to scents at our school.

Morning Safety - The Astral Bus Loop is new this year. Reminder to all students to use the sidewalk (not the grass side) walking down the street to the loop. Please do not walk through the loop as cars will be entering and exiting throughout the day. Use the sidewalk to walk past the elementary school to come to the junior high.

Cross Country Practices

Cross country Practices will be held on Tuesdays after school starting today. Students interested in running cross country should attend the first practice to get information about the cross country season. There will also be a group run after the information meeting so please come dressed and ready to run (rain or shine). Any students unable to attend should see Mrs. Carter in the gym or room 204.

Cell Phone Policy - Following the Provincial Cell Phone policy, students are not permitted to carry a cell phone or device on their person during instructional time. Instructional time begins at 8:20 when you enter the building. Cell phones and devices (including headphones) need to be put away and stored in your locker before you head to the first period. Students are allowed to use them during lunch. 

Girls Soccer Tryouts

There will be girls soccer tryouts on today and Wednesday from 2:30 -4:00, this week. Bring your cleats, shin pads, water and a snack. If you want to try out for cross country as well please let Ms. Carter know you want to and attend the soccer tryouts. 

Boys Soccer Tryouts

Boys soccer tryouts will be held today and tomorrow from 4-5 PM on the field.

If you are planning to try out, please sign the sheet posted on the bulletin board outside the gym by Tuesday at lunch.

Bring your cleats, shin pads, and a water bottle. Please come to the field 5-10 minutes early to check in with Mme Kennedy.
