MI’KMAQ HISTORY MONTH
October is Mi’kmaq History Month in Nova Scotia. The goal of the month is to help Nova Scotians build awareness of Mi’kmaq history and heritage, and to increase understanding of the province’s rich Mi’kmaq culture.  Treaty Day, October 1st marks the beginning of Mi'kmaq History Month in Nova Scotia as proclaimed in 1993 by then Premier John Savage and Mi’kmaq Grand Chief Ben Sylliboy.

GIRLS’ SOCCER
Congratulations to the girls’ soccer team for their Akerley Division win over Ellenvale with a score of 2-1. Haley Elliott kicked off the scoring and Grace Caudle sealed the win with a beauty penalty kick. With that win, the girls’ team is heading to Regionals as the #1 seed next Tuesday at 1:00 at the Burnside turf where they will face Fairview.


BOYS’ SOCCER
The boys’ soccer team beat Ellenvale 4-1, winning the Akerley Zone Championships, and advancing to the regional championships next Wednesday. Goals scored by Tommy McCormick and Toni Adeoye had a hat trick. Congratulation boys. 

SOCKTOBER - LEADERSHIP
Attention ADJH Students!!!!  We are having a “sock” drive this October – we are accepting new socks up to and including Friday, October 19th.  We encourage students and staff to bring in new socks of all sizes to donate to a local shelter.  Students are asked to give the socks to your homeroom teacher to collect!  Bringing in new socks is just a small thing we can do to help a person in need!  Thank you for your support!

LIFETOUCH – RETAKES
October 16th – today - Tuesday – Lifetouch will be here to do student photo re-takes.   We will call you down to the Library by homeroom once the photographer is ready.  Only those students who need a retake are to go to the Library!

GUIDANCE NEWS
The Guidance outer-office is open from Tuesdays to Thursdays at lunch.  20 people maximum.  Please bring your lunch as it is first come, first serve!
• Tuesdays - Wii day where we will play games on the Wii.
• Wednesdays - Board Game day
• Thursdays are Movie day

1)  Our first Girls’ group will meet on Wednesday, October 24th after school in Guidance.
2)  Our first Boys to Men will take place on Monday, October 15th!  See you then.

GARBAGE
Students are reminded to put their garbage in the garbage containers out and around the school grounds!  Please do not drop it on the ground!  Thank you!

GIRLS’ FLAG FOOTBALL
• Girls’ flag football scheduled for today is for the grade 9 team only.
Girls’ flag football scheduled for this Thursday is for the grade 7 & 8 teams only.

LOST & FOUND
Students are asked to please check the Lost & Found (items in two containers by the main doors on the Astral side of the building).  Please take any items that belong to you!

AFTER SCHOOL BUS DUTY

Reminder – Courtesy Bus is only available to those students whose parents registered with Stock Transportation over the summer.  The bus driver will have a list of students who are permitted to take the bus (if registered).
