MI’KMAQ HISTORY MONTH
October is Mi’kmaq History Month in Nova Scotia. The goal of the month is to help Nova Scotians build awareness of Mi’kmaq history and heritage, and to increase understanding of the province’s rich Mi’kmaq culture.  Treaty Day, October 1st marks the beginning of Mi'kmaq History Month in Nova Scotia as proclaimed in 1993 by then Premier John Savage and Mi’kmaq Grand Chief Ben Sylliboy.

SOCKTOBER - LEADERSHIP
Attention ADJH Students!!!!  We are having a “sock” drive this October from Tuesday, October 9th to Friday, October 19th.  We encourage students and staff to bring in new socks of all sizes to donate to a local shelter.  Students are asked to give the socks to your homeroom teacher to collect!  Bringing in new socks is just a small thing we can do to help a person in need!  Thank you for your support!

GIRLS’ RECREATIONAL SPORTS
All grades/girls are invited to the gym today - Wednesday to play volleyball during girl's only recreational sports which is from 2:45 to 3:45pm. Bring spare clothes and no spectators allowed.

LIFETOUCH – RETAKES
October 16th – next Tuesday – Lifetouch will be here to do student photo re-takes.   

GUIDANCE NEWS
The Guidance outer-office is open from Tuesdays to Thursdays at lunch.  20 people maximum.  Please bring your lunch as it is first come, first serve!
• Tuesdays - Wii day where we will play games on the Wii.
• Wednesdays - Board Game day
• Thursdays are Movie day

1)  Our first Girls’ group will meet on Wednesday, October 24th after school in Guidance.
2)  Our first Boys to Men will take place on Monday, October 15th!  See you then.

GARBAGE
Students are reminded to put their garbage in the garbage containers out and around the school grounds!  Please do not drop it on the ground!  Thank you!

GIRLS’ SOCCER
The girls’ soccer team is reminded of their championship game today against Sir Robert Borden at 3:45 on the Astral field. All players are asked to be on the field no later than 3:30pm and should tell Mr. Elliott if they cannot play. The girls are also reminded that team fees should be given to Ms. Fortune this week at the latest.

GIRLS’ FLAG FOOTBALL
Girls’ Flag Football is cancelled tomorrow!

BOYS’ SOCCER
The Astral boys will play EPEC today on the Astral Field at 5:00pm.

BOYS’ FLAG FOOTBALL
The final tryout for boys’ flag football will be, today, Wednesday after school.  If the weather permits we will meet outside right after the 2:30pm bell; if not, 3:45pm indoors.

Reminder – Courtesy Bus is only available to those students whose parents registered with Stock Transportation over the summer.  The bus driver will have a list of students who are permitted to take the bus (if registered).
