ANNOUNCEMENTS:  Monday, January 8, 2024: WEEK #2

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:
We would like to acknowledge that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaw people. The Treaties of Peace and Friendship cover this territory .

We recognize that African Nova Scotians are a distinct people whose histories, legacies and contributions have enriched Nova Scotia for over 400 years.

***PLEASE NOTE***  Our cafeteria will be closed on Tuesday, January 9th.  It will NOT be available for lunch.

Cole Harbour Library

We’re making slime. Slime is awesome. You should come and make slime too. It really speaks for itself.

Art Club
" Are you ready to unleash your creativity!? Well then the Art club is for you! We will have our first art club meeting on Friday January 12th at 11:35 in Ms Breen’s classroom - make sure to bring your lunch! "
Cheerleading
Practice will be today from 2:30-4:30pm.
Girls Basketball
The girls basketball team has their first game today at Graham Creighton at 4:00pm. The team should be at the school by 3:30.
Drama Club
The drama club will meet after school today in the library from 2:30 to 3:15.

Student lates

As I spoke of last week, student lates have increased in recent weeks and we will be reinstituting late detentions on Fridays as well as other consequences.

Again - for clarity sake so we are all on the same page, students are to enter the building, retrieve what they need from their lockers and go directly to classes.  They should not be checking in with support workers, going to the guidance office or catching up with friends in the hallways/washrooms when they arrive or in between classes.  Lates between classes will count toward your 3 lates for the week.

For those students who have 3 or more unexcused lates in a week (ie those that we did not receive a notification about from your parents), you will serve a 10 minute detention that Friday afternoon.  That is what we have always done.  There is something new, however.

The names of those students will be also shared with teachers on Fridays after school and those students on that list will not be permitted to attend lunchtime intramurals and other lunchtime activities in the gym nor will they be permitted to attend lunchtime or after-school clubs for the following week.

Parents of students on this list will also be contacted.  If students have any questions about this, feel free to see me to discuss them at lunch or after school - not during class time.

We will begin this new policy this week starting today.
