GUIDANCE NEWS
The Guidance outer-office is open from Tuesdays to Thursdays at lunch.  20 people maximum.  Please bring your lunch as it is first come, first serve!
• Tuesdays - Wii day where we will play games on the Wii.
• Wednesdays - Board Game day
• Thursdays are Movie day

TERRY FOX RUN/WALK
The Terry Fox run/walk will be held, at ADJH, at 1:00 pm this Thursday, September 27th.

GUIDANCE NEWS

1. Calling all girls!  Our Astral Drive Girls Group is starting again and we are meeting on Tuesdays this year.    This group meets for fun, discussion, and tackles some of the big issues facing young women in our world today.  Come on out to see Mrs. Greer in Guidance today at break to sign up.

2.  GSA- Our GSA. (Gay/Straight Alliance) is also starting again!  Thursdays after school.  Come on out to Guidance, Thursday, at break to sign up.

3.  Need help with your organization?   Binders, lockers and agendas need some TLC?  Mondays next week, we begin our organization group!   Students can refer themselves, so come on out to Guidance, Monday, at break to sign up.

4.  Boys to Men - Our Boys to Men group is starting again this year!   This group meets for fun, discussion and tackles many of the issues facing being a young man in the world today.    See Mrs. Greer for more details.

GREEN TEAM
Members of green team B are asked to meet in Mme Arseneau's room (204) today, September 25th after morning announcements.

LEARNING CENTRE
The learning centre will be selling popcorn in the main lobby at lunch today and tomorrow - Wednesday. Popcorn is $1.00 if you'd like seasoning it costs an extra .25 cents.

CANTEEN
When you are standing in line for the canteen, please do not erase what is on the white board on the wall! 

BOYS’ SOCCER
The boys play today at 3:45pm here at Astral field. Please be on the field no later than 3:30pm. If for some reason you cannot play, please let Ms. Little know.

BAND NEWS
Jazz band rehearsal scheduled for today – Tuesday, after school, has been cancelled for this week.

GIRLS’ FLAG FOOTBALL
Girls’ Flag Football tryout this Thursday for grades 7 & 8 at 2:45pm.

LIBRARY NEWS

Today in the Library there will be a movie playing over the lunch hour.

FREE THE CHILDREN
Attention those who are interested in Free The Children: The link to the Google Form is currently not working. Please come to the meeting this Thursday in Mlle. MacDonald's room at lunch if you are still interested in being part of this years' group.

GIRLS’ ONLY ACTIVE LUNCH
• Today is the first Girls Only Active Lunch!  All girls from all grades are welcome to attend!

BOYS’ FLAG FOOTBALL
Wednesday’s boys’ flag football tryout will be indoors from 2:30-3:45pm and is for students in grades 7 and 8 ONLY!

ASTRAL’S COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Hey Astral, do you enjoy volunteering and doing good deeds for others – Astral’s Community Outreach – is a great way to do those things.  The first meeting will take place today - Tuesday, September 25th in the office.

CROSS COUNTRY
Cross Country meeting today at 11:45am in room 104 (Mr. Tetford’s room).  All runners should attend!

GARBAGE
Students are reminded to put their garbage in the garbage containers out and around the school grounds!  Please do not drop it on the ground!  Thank you!

DUKE OF EDINBURGH
Attention Duke of Edinburgh students:  Make sure that you do the online registration on the Duke of Edinburgh site by Wednesday, October 3rd.  The link to the Duke website is on Mr. McKergow's homepage.  The deadline again is Wednesday - October 3rd!

ORANGE SHIRT DAY
Orange shirt day, takes place this Thursday - September 27th; it is in honour of the Children of Residential Schools – “Every Child Matters”!  Staff and students are asked to wear an orange shirt this Thursday, September 27th!

Reminder – Courtesy Bus is only available to those students whose parents registered with Stock Transportation over the summer.  The bus driver will have a list of students who are permitted to take the bus (if registered).

COMMUNITY NEWS

The IWK Health Centre will be hosting its tenth annual Health Care Career Day on Wednesday November 14, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Gallery of the Dr. Richard B. Goldbloom Research and Clinical Care Pavilion at the IWK Health Centre.

Health Care Career Day will provide students with information about careers in the health care sector. As a part of Career Day, there will be displays and demonstrations featuring various IWK departments and services, as well as refreshments and prizes. IWK staff will be on hand to provide students with information about their jobs and what types of educational programs are required to pursue a career in health care.

We believe this is an excellent opportunity to help students learn more about possible careers in the health care sector and make informed educational choices. For students in Grade 9, this may be helpful in choosing high school courses.
