GUIDANCE NEWS
The Guidance outer-office is open from Tuesdays to Thursdays at lunch.  20 people maximum.  Please bring your lunch as it is first come, first serve!
• Tuesdays - Wii day where we will play games on the Wii.
• Wednesdays - Board Game day
• Thursdays are Movie day

FREE THE CHILDREN
• There won't be a Free the Children meeting this week but next Tuesday will be a meeting with a representative from Adsum House - our local charity.  See you there!

GIRLS’ SOFTBALL
There will be a girls’ softball tryout next Tuesday May 8th at 3:30 pm. The tryout could be inside or outside, weather depending, so please bring appropriate attire and footwear. Any questions, please see Mrs. Banfield.

African Nova Scotian Health Science Summer Camp 2018

Information & Application Package
Promoting Leadership in health for African Nova Scotians (PLANS) at Dalhousie University is happy to be accepting applications for the 2018 African Nova Scotian Health Science Summer Camps. African Nova Scotian/Canadian students from across Nova Scotian who are interested in a career in health are invited to apply for this unique opportunity. The purpose of the camp is to increase interest in the health professions within the Black community. The camp will introduce youth to a variety of health professions - such as nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, paramedicine, and public health - through fun, hands-on and interactive programming. The camp will also consist of personal development, cultural and recreational activities such as African drumming, and other outdoor activities.
Youth can apply for the one or all of the following summer opportunities:
• Halifax, Dalhousie University – July 8-13, 2018 (Grade 8, 9, 10)
• Antigonish, St. FX University – July 17-20, 2018 (Grade 8, 9, 10, 11)*
• Sydney, Cape Breton University– July 22-25, 2018 (Grade 8, 9, 10, 11)*

*In collaboration with Indigenous Health Mini University
Accepted students will arrive on the first day of the camp and remain on the respective campus until the final day. This is an overnight camp – accommodations, meals and snacks are provided. Participants will be responsible for their transportation to and from home.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Submit the following by Friday, May 4, 2018:
• Completed application form with signatures from student and parent/guardian(s)
• Personal letter of interest (maximum 1 page; typed or hand written) describing the following:
o what you like to do for fun, where you live and your community, what your favorite school subjects are, and why you would like to attend the camp.
• Completed Student Reference Form from a one of the following: principal, vice-principal, teacher, guidance counsellor, Student Support Worker, or Regional Educator.
o For Grade 10 and 11 students proof of enrollment in science classes must also be included (i.e. transcript, letter from teacher, PowerSchool print out)

Accepted students will receive notification by May 28, 2018 and will be required to pay applicable fee - $50 (Dalhousie) or $40 (StFX/CBU) - note that payment is NOT required with application; procedure for payment will be included with acceptance letter.
